Mother's Day

It was Mother's Day 1996...

I took my mother to the movies for Mother's Day. We chose to see "The Truth About Cats and Dogs" thinking it was a comedy. Well, it was, but we didn't know about the phone sex scene. Talk about awkward. Mom and I weren't sure what to say to each other after.

I'm turning into my parents

I always knew I'd turn into my mom someday. That day is here. Now that I have my own child, I see and hear Mom in most things I do. It is especially apparent when I am consoling the crying child. I also see it when laughing at the television. I sit the same way she does and laugh with the same staccato. Thanks, Mom.

Pyramids at Saqqara is the oldest place I've been

The best vacation...

In 2007, we took the trip of a lifetime to the Mediterranean. We visited Istanbul, Cairo, Alexandria, Ephesus, Athens, etc. It was amazing seeing structures from thousands of years ago.

The thing that struck me most about the Great Pyramids of Giza is their proximity to a bustling city. The pictures you see most often make it seem as though they are in the middle of the dessert when in actuality, the busy streets of Cairo are just 1/2 mile away.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs brings me back

I reread this book hundreds of times, always dreaming of what it would be like to see the sun rise over a mountain of mashed potatoes.

I need to add this to my daughter's growing library.
